During the month of October, Traci and I are sharing a post each day that is focused on the family and helping yours to grow stronger and closer together. You can see the other posts here.  Today, I want to talk about goals. I believe that when a group of people are working together for a common purpose, that group of people will get closer together as a result. I once heard an analogy by John Bytheway (he is a motivational LDS speaker). He compared family progress to riding a tandem bicycle. Each person needs to be helping to pedal,...

So as a little background on our family, I have 5 siblings And my husband has 6 siblings. We have 10 sibling in laws. And together have 36 nieces and nephews. And we don’t live by any of them. They all live on the West Coast, and we are still a good two day drive {or more} from them. I wanted to start a tradition that helped us to be able to feel connected to everyone individually, and so I started sending a birthday card to our siblings and their spouses, and their kids, and of course our parents. It’s a lot to remember,...

During this 31 days to a closer family, Traci and I are sharing a lot of fun and serious posts about family. We aren’t experts in anyway (except that we have families… and we like to make them closer!) We just like to share our advice with anyone who wants to hear it.  This is going to be a pretty simple list type post. 10 “easy” ways to improve your marriage. I put easy in quotes because while these things seem simple, they do take effort. They take a determination to have a better marriage. They take two...

This month, we are doing a series on strengthening families. 31 days to a closer family is what the series is called. During this month, I have been reflecting on what it is that makes a family strong. What makes my family strong? What makes my husband’s family strong? What makes OUR family strong? I know that there are a few key things that bring us together.  Forgive me for speaking boldly. I know that some people don’t like it, but I feel like I have no other choice. I must tell others what I believe, because I believe...

One of my favorite things about my marriage, is the gratitude we show each other. I know a lot of people would probably make fun of us because we are saying thank you, and I’m sorry more often than most people could stand. But it is something that I really love about our relationship. My husband is SO great to tell me thank you for even the smallest things. Like doing the dishes, or doing the laundry or getting birthday cards ready for our families. He is constantly telling me thank you, and I really feel loved and appreciated when...

There was once a time when most families in America gathered together each night to eat dinner together. There was no distractions from TV, cell phones, or anything else. It was an hour or so when the family could sit down together and talk about the day and get to know each other better.  Today, everyone seems to have such busy lives. I’ve met many people who claim to never eat together as a family, or if they do, it’s over an expensive meal at a restaurant. Regular family dinners are becoming a thing of the past. Many...

Traci here adding a note! I also use a blog to journal, and just want to suggest a few tips on what to write on your blog. First, you will NOT be able to remember EVERYTHING, and that is okay! Just write down things you remember here and there. It’s not so much that you remember everything that happened in your life, as much as the things that are important, a few things here and there. Try to remember the best of things, and if you feel like adding a trial or hardship, do so! Make it your own, help your family later on remember...

Did you guys happen to read my other posts about family yearbooks? You can still check them out if you haven’t! Introduction to Family Yearbooks {Traci Style} Why I use Blurb Okay! Now that we got that out of the way! My final thoughts, collages! Have I ever mentioned that I am probably THE MOST indecisive person in the world? I am pretty sure I am {see, I am even indecisive on whether or not I am the most!} So, when I take pictures I take a ton, and then when I put them on the computer I love them all so much I can’t choose...

I wanted to share something with you that we have implemented in our family to make sure that our kiddos get more one on one time. When we had our first child, we felt like we got a LOT of time with our son, and didn’t ever feel like we didn’t get one on one time with him. Then we had little sister, and we felt a little bit like we weren’t getting much one on one time with our oldest. {babies are needy, yah know!?} So we started doing dates with our son on his birthday day of every month. SO toward the middle of the...

A family that plays together, stays together, right? (or maybe it’s a family that prays together… either way!) Some of my favorite memories from my childhood are times when my family would play games together. I wanted to share three easy games that are great to play as a family.  Sardines This is a variation of the classic version of hide and seek. I like this version much better. The way this game works is one person is “it.” That person goes and hides somewhere, while everyone else waits for a designated...
