It’s funny how the Lord works, right? They say he works in mysterious ways. This month, I’ve been able to see that. Here I am, planning out this month so that we can save as much money as possible to be able to buy a car. I have all these great plans, and I was positive by the end of the month, I would have my car. It doesn’t look like things will work out that way.
Yesterday, we found out that my husband won’t be working next week either. We are lucky that he had gotten all the paperwork in to be able to be a substitute teacher before finding the job he has. He has been able to work a few days doing that, so we won’t be paycheck-less this month, it’ll just be less of a paycheck than we’re used to.
He also got a call a couple days ago saying that the bill for his wisdom teeth removal was going to be more than we had originally planned for. That bill had to be paid before the surgery could happen. But, we were able to make that happen. We paid for it in cash. It would have been easy to use a credit card for this, and to justify it since it was a big expense, but we didn’t.
But, because I had tightened up our budget so much, it’s not even going to matter. I am so grateful that I planned this month this way. I believe that it was no accident. No, we won’t be able to save anything this month, but we aren’t going to have to use the savings we did have or use credit cards. We don’t have a wisdom tooth surgery bill to pay off, and we aren’t any worse for wear credit card wise. For that, I am very grateful.
I am also very grateful for the fact that my husband has been able to be home with us a little bit. He normally works 48 hours a week, which means we don’t get to see him much. He is tired when he gets home, and the kids go to sleep about a half hour after he arrives. It has been so wonderful to be able to have him here a little more.
Of course, today was a little different. His wisdom teeth were removed this morning, so he has had a pretty rough day. I thought about trying to get a picture but decided I better not. Instead, here is a picture of us when we first started dating. We’d been dating for like… a week and he drove me 10 hours to my brother’s wedding. It was like 20 hours back because of a horrible storm. And it was during finals week. Ya, he’s pretty awesome 🙂
He’s swollen and in pain. I feel bad because there is absolutely nothing I can do to make it better. But, it’s amazing how fast the body heals, isn’t it? My mom reminded me both times I gave birth that I would feel better tomorrow than I did today. Every day you get a little stronger, so I’m sure tomorrow will be a little better for my husband.
On a side note, he asked to keep the teeth. Weird, right? But, it turns out that wisdom teeth are HUGE! Who knew?
How have you been doing with your cash only plan? Any success stories?
