I totally remember the first time someone talked to me about Shakeology. I didn’t even LOOK at the nutrition information or any of the facts about it. All I saw was the price and I didn’t look any further. There was NO WAY it was worth that much right? I mean… $4/day? I could make green smoothies on my own for half that price!
So I did. I shared lots of recipes on my blog of smoothies that I was making. I thought I was being SO healthy with my green smoothie. I mean, there was TWO CUPS of spinach in it. It had to be healthy, right?
I decided to compare the nutritional facts of that smoothie to this super food shake that I’ve been drinking every day for the last year+ to see the difference.
I was AMAZED. That “healthy” smoothie had EIGHT FIVE grams of sugar in it! 85! Compare that to the 8 grams that are in a serving of Shakeology. That’s crazy. All it had was fruit and spinach in it!
Then I looked at carbs. 124 grams of crabs vs 18 grams in Shakeology? Holy crap! My goal now is about 100-150 PER DAY. I was getting almost all of that in one smoothie! No wonder I didn’t lose weight when I was drinking green smoothies for breakfast every day.
And then there is fat. It is important to get good fats in, and an avocado IS good fat, but 22 grams vs 4? It’s not even a comparison.
And we won’t even talk about the vitamins, phytonutrients, adaptogens, antioxidents, probitoics, prebiotics, and digestive enzymes that I’m getting in Shakeology.
It’s clear that I was WRONG in thinking that I was doing just as good by making a smoothie on my own. It’s is SO worth that extra $2/day to have a whole food shake that IS healthy, that tastes good, AND helps me lose weight. This stuff is the real deal.
