Cooking with your Spouse

My husband and I try our best to do date night every week like Markell said and sometimes to make it extra special, we cook together. No… definitely NOT while the kids are awake, that would just be chaos 🙂 We feed the kids a simple meal {mac and cheese anyone!?} and have a light snack and then put them to bed and start OUR dinner. Which means food that we want to eat, but our kids don’t always want to. You know what I mean?

It’s amazing how close you grow by working together. You are able to talk, flirt, work with each other and just enjoy each others company! I feel like it strengthens our marriage a lot when we work together doing things. Cooking is definitely my favorite, but you could clean or work outside, too if you really hate cooking! Just take the time to BE together working towards creating something better! 🙂 One year my husband and I made Pecan Logs. Um, I had never made these before without my mother and they are A LOT of work. It was really fun doing it with my husband though, because we could throw ideas off each other, take turns stirring the silly caramel and help put things together and make things work. My husband is a LOT more patient than me and made a great companion 🙂 And besides that you have to talk when you are cooking right? So here are a few tips to making cooking with your spouse ENJOYAble 🙂

1. Keep it Simple {Sometimes, if you start out trying something super hard, you will hate cooking together and never do it again} Maybe start out small and move up to bigger and better things and learn together.

2. Take a Cooking Class together, learn a new technique or… my favorite, watch Food Network 🙂 {Luckily my husband will watch food network with me- if your husband won’t do any of these things, never fear, you can just teach him along the way 🙂

3. Have FUN. Don’t stress out too much if it doesn’t look pretty, come out JUST right, or ends up not working at all, you could order pizza or try a different recipe next time. The goal isn’t perfect food here, it’s the time you are spending together and the quality of that time, don’t be to hard on yourself or your spouse!

4. Change up recipes to how YOU like them. My husband and I, we love eggnog, so we add it to PRETTY much everything once it shows up in the store. Playing around with recipes, and changing them to what you both like is so much fun!

5. Give- My husband I love to share our treats and breads and meals with neighbors and friends. It’s so much fun to take our family out and share something we have all made together.

6. Try some new foods together! It’s cheaper than eating out right? Spend a little money on fun ingredients and try out something you have never even known about before! Maybe talk about foods you remember eating as a kid or thing your grandmother used to make and recreate those! My husband introduced me to Baklava and I LOVE it. You never know what you might find you enjoy!

7. Try recreating your favorite dish from a restaurant at home. Maybe even set things up like a restaurant and do a full course meal, candles, etc.! I love doing this especially because its like we are out eating somewhere fancy, but we are home alone together, awww…. perfect 🙂 {I am a homebody…} 🙂

Just have fun with it! And let me know how it goes k?

And I am about to share my husbands secret eggnog hot chocolate with you, see, we really DO love Eggnog! 🙂 {Seriously the best hot chocolate I have ever had…ever 🙂 Someday maybe we’ll figure out our own mix, too!
