On today, this beautiful Halloween day, the close of the 31 days to a closer family series is happening. I have to say that posting every day for a whole month was HARD. I’m glad to go back to just 3 times a week. I really hope you have all enjoyed this series, I know Traci and I have really enjoyed putting it together for you.  For this last post, I just wanted to recap a little about all the posts we did for you. Here is a list of the posts and a link to each of them: Day 1: Becoming A Closer Family Through Baking & Giving Day...

During the month of October, Traci & I are sharing posts on how to help your family grow closer together. Today, I want to talk about date night.  I’ve always been told that it is important for a husband and wife to continue dating each other after they are married. It is important to be able to spend some time together, without children, and continue to get to know each other. My husband and I have been married four and a half years and there is still SO much I don’t know about this man. We are currently on a two...

I had been thinking about this post for a while, after I read a talk by Dieter F. Uchtdorf entitled “One Key To a Happy Family”. If you haven’t read it before, it is really amazing. All of his talks are amazing. But what drew me in initially was just the fact that there is one key thing we can develop in ourselves and our children to have a happy family, and that is forgiveness. I have been blessed with incredible families on both sides, and can honestly say, I love them with all my heart, and trust them with all of my...

This post is part of a series on helping families get closer together. Today’s post was kind of hard for me to write because I really don’t know much about it, but I do know that it is a great way to get closer to your family.  What I’m talking about today is family history work. That is a term heard a lot in the church, but I have noticed that it is popular both in and out of the church. I see adds all the time telling me that I can out if I’m related to the people who came over on the Mayflower or if I have...

Have I ever mentioned how much I Love my Mother in law? Seriously, I won the jackpot. I have ALWAYS heard SO MANY horror stories about bad mother in laws and issues, and I was honestly planning on having to work through some things, but, when I met my husband’s Mom I was so excited! I have been around/in the family for six-ish years and never had any problems. She is absolutely wonderful and my kids adore her {and I do, too!} She is an incredible example, and I really look up to her. Not too mention she raised my husband, which is...

I know that during this 31 Days To A Closer Family series I’ve talked a lot about Family Home Evening. To reiterate how important I think it is, I’m doing yet another post on it.  This is a little project I’ve been planning for awhile. It didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted, but I thought it might inspire someone else to create one or something like it.  Family Home Evening boards are pretty common. In fact, I already have one, but there are a few things I don’t like about most of the ones I’ve...

During the month of October, Traci and I are sharing a post each day that is focused on the family and helping yours to grow stronger and closer together. You can see the other posts here.  Today, I want to talk about goals. I believe that when a group of people are working together for a common purpose, that group of people will get closer together as a result. I once heard an analogy by John Bytheway (he is a motivational LDS speaker). He compared family progress to riding a tandem bicycle. Each person needs to be helping to pedal,...

During this 31 days to a closer family, Traci and I are sharing a lot of fun and serious posts about family. We aren’t experts in anyway (except that we have families… and we like to make them closer!) We just like to share our advice with anyone who wants to hear it.  This is going to be a pretty simple list type post. 10 “easy” ways to improve your marriage. I put easy in quotes because while these things seem simple, they do take effort. They take a determination to have a better marriage. They take two...

This month, we are doing a series on strengthening families. 31 days to a closer family is what the series is called. During this month, I have been reflecting on what it is that makes a family strong. What makes my family strong? What makes my husband’s family strong? What makes OUR family strong? I know that there are a few key things that bring us together.  Forgive me for speaking boldly. I know that some people don’t like it, but I feel like I have no other choice. I must tell others what I believe, because I believe...

One of my favorite things about my marriage, is the gratitude we show each other. I know a lot of people would probably make fun of us because we are saying thank you, and I’m sorry more often than most people could stand. But it is something that I really love about our relationship. My husband is SO great to tell me thank you for even the smallest things. Like doing the dishes, or doing the laundry or getting birthday cards ready for our families. He is constantly telling me thank you, and I really feel loved and appreciated when...
