Disclaimer: I was compensated for this post with some free product.

I’m super excited to be able to share some awesome new with you guys. Silhouette is having some awesome Black Friday deals. We’ll get to that later in the post though.

First, I want to talk a little about my Silhouette machine. For those of you don’t know what a Silhouette machine is, it’s an electronic cutter. It can cut vinyl, card stock, fabric, heat transfer material, rhinestone templates and other specialty media. The things you can make are endless. Silhouette has an awesome pinterest board with tons of projects. You can check out that board and see just how awesome this machine really is.

I haven’t had my machine very long, so I haven’t gotten to explore all the different features this machine has, but what I have gotten to play around with is really neat. One of my favorite things that it does is print and then cut. So if you have a project you want to have cut, but you want it in color, you can design it on the Silhouette cutting program and tell it what colors to print and which lines you want to cut. Then, you print it on your computer’s printer and run in through the Silhouette cutter. The machine is hooked into your computer and it can tell which lines need cut and which ones don’t. It’s like magic.

So I wanted to show you one simple way you can use a Silhouette in your every day life. We just moved into a new house and my kids now have their very own playroom. That means that toys. are. everywhere. All over the place. I decided to make a couple of little sacks for my kids to organize their toys. I used some scrap fabric. I wanted to make it super simple, so I cut a long piece of fabric, folded it in half “hamburger style,” put the wrong sides of the fabric together and sewed up the sides.

I left about an inch at the top that I didn’t sew. Then I folded over the top to leave room for a drawstring. I was going to put in button holes but… my machine decided it didn’t want to do that. So I left openings at the seam for the drawstring.

So now to the part where I use my Silhouette machine. I used some heat transfer vinyl that I had on hand and cut out the words “Trains and Cars” along with a picture of a train. I ironed the vinyl onto the bag so my kids would know what this particular bag was for. So, I cut out the heat transfer and ironed it on. Easy peasy. My kids were so excited about their new bag and couldn’t wait to put their toys in it.

I got my vinyl from (affiliate link) Pick Your Plum. If you’re going to do a heat transfer project with their vinyl – a word to the wise! Make sure your design is flipped. You can do this put hitting the button in the top left of the Silhouette program that says “Open the replicate window,” and click the mirror left button. Then get rid of the original and just use the mirrored image.

Also – Newbie alert – In this picture you can see I was cutting with the shiny part up… That, my friends, is wrong. Cut with the shiny part down. I used a 4 for the blade setting and a 3 for the speed and it worked great. After you cut, peel the excess vinyl away from the plastic, lay the vinyl – vinyl side down – on the fabric you want to iron on. Cover the plastic with a thin piece of fabric and iron with a high setting.

Peel back the plastic and you should be good to go!
