I just finished my first ever quilt. It is a gift for my sister in law, who is expecting a baby any day now. I found this pattern here from Curly Top Quilts. It was designed by Curly Top Quilts and the pattern is for sale on her etsy shop for just $3. Check out her blog here. The pattern was simple and easy to read and I think it was a perfect first quilt. The pattern uses pink as the bright color, but I decided to use yellow. I used heat n bond to make the applique easier. And, I used the back fabric as binding to make things even...

In my quest to come up with some good activities for my almost two year old, I came across an idea from Play, Create, Explore. This activity was easy to prepare and my little guy loved it. It kept him occupied for about 25 minutes, which is house in toddler time. So, what I did was save egg shells from breakfast (we had omelets). I boiled the egg shells and cleaned out the insides afterwords. I’m not sure if boiling was actually necessary, but I figured it couldn’t hurt. I put all the shells into a bowl and stuck him in...
Every week, I try to be as productive as possible. I like to use my time wisely and get everything done that I need to. I do that by making a to do list every week and every day. I wrote a guest post on a blog called Search with Vonni all about my planning methods. It’s a good one, you don’t wanna miss it! Leave a comment here or on her blog if you like it! How do you make your day effective? Image source: freedigitalphotos.net Share ...
In high school, I was really good friends with a girl named Felica (pronounced fa-lee-sha). She even lived with me for awhile. Super good friends. We had lots of fun times. We were on the yearbook staff together, developed pictures all the time, played volleyball together, even “started” a photography business that we named FAME Photography (FAME stood for Felica, Ashley, Markell Enterprises… I think.. I’m not sure about the E). Ashley was another girl we were good friends with. We had lots of good times. Anyway,...
Potty training seems like such a scary thing to me. For one, it means that my baby is growing up. As much as I hate changing diapers, I don’t want him to grow up too fast. I love having babies at home and I am so lucky to have two of them. However, two in diapers is not fun. He is only 21 months right now. I know some people have been able to potty train their children that young, but he is not ready yet. However, I am doing a few things that I think will help him to be ready quicker. And for the record, I had a hard time writing...
I believe that when kids do things that are hard for them, they end up feeling proud of themselves. I have seen so many parents do things for their kids that, with a little encouragement, the kids could have done themselves. We tell our kids they can do anything they want to do and be anything they want to be. But, as soon as it looks like they are struggling, we step in and help. What kind of message does that send our kids? My not quite two year old and I have moments like this all the time. Something happens that he things may be difficult...
When my husband and I decided to live in a two bedroom house with a family of four, it meant that our kids would have to share a room. This is a right of passage for anyone with a sibling, it seems like. At one point or another most kids have shared a room. Our kids are no different. One thing that sets them apart from many others that share a room is that they are only 12 months apart. When we moved into our house, our youngest, a girl, was four months old and still sleeping in a bassinet in our bedroom. Our oldest, a boy, was 16 months...
I had always heard that a bedtime routine was an important part of a kids day, but I never really believed anyone. My son went to bed really well and we never had any sort of a routine. I had heard other people saying how they have these long elaborate routines which involve bouncing on medicine balls and singing for hours on end and I didn’t want any of that. When we threw another baby into the mix however, things got a little more difficult. He had a harder time going to sleep, and something needed to change. So, I decided to try...
