Bumkins All-In-One Diaper Review

Posted on Sep 19 2013 - 7:00am by Markell Corpus

During this two week cloth diapering event, I am planning on reviewing some of the diapers in my stash. Earlier this week, I talked about a Gro-Via all-in-one diaper, today I’ll be talking about another all-in-one. This one is called a Bumkins Diaper. I actually purchased this diaper myself and was not compensated for this review in any way.

I bought this diaper as my first all-in-one diaper. I bought it from my local children’s boutique store. I picked this one because it’s so stinking cute and it was the cheapest all-in-one that the store had. It was around $17 instead of $20-25.

This diaper is very, very trim. I love the look at the fit. There are quite a few buttons on the front, and a minimum of eight snaps need to be done each time a diaper is put on, which is a little much for me. It also has four snaps instead of three to change the rise, so if my daughter wasn’t on the highest rise setting, I would be looking at 12 snaps for one diaper change.

The diaper has an inner panel that pulls out so that drying time is easier. Even with this feature, this is my slowest drying diaper. The instructions say you can dry it in the dryer, but I always hang it up. The inside has two layers of blended cotton and bamboo rayon. Because of the way the diaper is designed, extra inserts can be added to increase absorbency, which is a really nice option.

I really thought I would love this diaper, and I do really like it, but it does have some problems. Besides the fact that the manufacture went a little snap crazy, it also leaks. Not like from the legs like diapers do sometimes if they’ve been on too long, but all over. It leaks through the PUL fabric. It doesn’t leak every time, but often enough that it makes me nervous to put it on my daughter if we aren’t just staying home.

I am able to make this a very useful diaper by adding extra inserts. I add two extra microfiber inserts to the pocket and it’ll last through the night, which is nice. The extra inserts make it essentially a pocket diaper and it is a little more bulky, so it kind of defeats the purpose of this diaper.

I know a lot of people who really like this brand, so it’s possible I got a bad diaper or it just doesn’t work well with my daughter. I do still use it and I love love love how cute the print is.

Try putting it in the dryer on hot for ten minutes to reseal the pul. Also zuilly has bumkins from time to time. You can get an aio for $10!

That's not bad at all! $10 for an AIO is something I can handle. And I'll try the dryer trick. Thanks!

We just started using our cloth AIO's since Christmas Eve. These were my favorite even with the snaps until last night I noticed our LO felt damp on her bottom! I have tried two more of these today with the same result. It is leaking through the PUL! These will be going back

It made me really sad when they started leaking on my little girl, too. We just use it around the house now, and at night time with another insert. They actually work great for that. I mostly use prefolds and covers now though. They are much easier to clean.
