Okay I have a confession, friends. I had never had chocolate milk from a carton until I met my husband…

I had had the mix, that you put into your milk, But never chocolate milk already made. Can I say, that the chocolate milk already made, is SO. MUCH. BETTER!? Anyone else with me?

I also have to say that we have been buying TruMoo Chocolate Milk for some time now. It is always the best tasting, TruMoo  is made with fresh white milk sourced from regional dairies around the country – pure cocoa and just a little bit of sugar. I love that it’s not TOO sweet, but still gives you enough sweet to keep you smiling! It also contains no growth hormones and no high fructose corn syrup!  I also really love TRUMOO because I feel like it is something my kids consider a *treat* when really, it’s pretty good for them! They are getting calcium to build strong bones, a just a TINY bit of sugar, who doesn’t love a treat that is good for you? :)

I am not going to lie, I sometimes sneak a glass when my kids are sleeping because I want some for myself! My husband also enjoys it and it’s one of our favorite treats.

That is why I was SUPER excited to hear that TRUMOO Has a new flavor called Chocolate Marshmallow! It’s like smore’s in drink form {Without the cracker part, which let’s be honest, that part isn’t really necessary anyway! ;) And if you need the cracker, you could always dip it in, and then you are set!? Be sure to check them out on twitter, too!

The only bummer about this new chocolate marshmallow flavor is that it is only available in February. The GOOD news is they also have a store locator for you, so that you will be sure to find it as a store near you! Here is the link!  Alrighty then, no excuses, go get some the next time you are out and about and share the love this February! :)

And! Enter to win a $500 Gift Card to Target to buy all the TruMoo Milk you want! They’ll email the winner by February 27.

Good Luck! Enjoy! :)

My husband and I try our best to do date night every week like Markell said and sometimes to make it extra special, we cook together. No… definitely NOT while the kids are awake, that would just be chaos :) We feed the kids a simple meal {mac and cheese anyone!?} and have a light snack and then put them to bed and start OUR dinner. Which means food that we want to eat, but our kids don’t always want to. You know what I mean?

It’s amazing how close you grow by working together. You are able to talk, flirt, work with each other and just enjoy each others company! I feel like it strengthens our marriage a lot when we work together doing things. Cooking is definitely my favorite, but you could clean or work outside, too if you really hate cooking! Just take the time to BE together working towards creating something better! :) One year my husband and I made Pecan Logs. Um, I had never made these before without my mother and they are A LOT of work. It was really fun doing it with my husband though, because we could throw ideas off each other, take turns stirring the silly caramel and help put things together and make things work. My husband is a LOT more patient than me and made a great companion :) And besides that you have to talk when you are cooking right? So here are a few tips to making cooking with your spouse ENJOYAble :)

1. Keep it Simple {Sometimes, if you start out trying something super hard, you will hate cooking together and never do it again} Maybe start out small and move up to bigger and better things and learn together.

2. Take a Cooking Class together, learn a new technique or… my favorite, watch Food Network :) {Luckily my husband will watch food network with me- if your husband won’t do any of these things, never fear, you can just teach him along the way :)

3. Have FUN. Don’t stress out too much if it doesn’t look pretty, come out JUST right, or ends up not working at all, you could order pizza or try a different recipe next time. The goal isn’t perfect food here, it’s the time you are spending together and the quality of that time, don’t be to hard on yourself or your spouse!

4. Change up recipes to how YOU like them. My husband and I, we love eggnog, so we add it to PRETTY much everything once it shows up in the store. Playing around with recipes, and changing them to what you both like is so much fun!

5. Give- My husband I love to share our treats and breads and meals with neighbors and friends. It’s so much fun to take our family out and share something we have all made together.

6. Try some new foods together! It’s cheaper than eating out right? Spend a little money on fun ingredients and try out something you have never even known about before! Maybe talk about foods you remember eating as a kid or thing your grandmother used to make and recreate those! My husband introduced me to Baklava and I LOVE it. You never know what you might find you enjoy!

7. Try recreating your favorite dish from a restaurant at home. Maybe even set things up like a restaurant and do a full course meal, candles, etc.! I love doing this especially because its like we are out eating somewhere fancy, but we are home alone together, awww…. perfect :) {I am a homebody…} :)

Just have fun with it! And let me know how it goes k?

Love,

Traci

And I am about to share my husbands secret eggnog hot chocolate with you, see, we really DO love Eggnog! :) {Seriously the best hot chocolate I have ever had…ever :) Someday maybe we’ll figure out our own mix, too!

Are you guys joining in the running challenge with us? It’s a simple running challenge to get you all off your booties and on to the streets, racking up those miles. If you started when I did, you should be at just around 34 miles, not including today’s run.

I have to admit I’ve had a rough time these last few weeks! If it wasn’t for this challenge, I probably wouldn’t have kept running. I’m very grateful for the support system those completing this challenge have given me! If you are trying to get your 100 miles this summer, be sure to use the hash code #100milesummer when you talk about it so we can all keep up with each other.

TROPICALGREENcopyEach week I try to share some kind of fitness tip or recipe with you guys. This week, I am sharing a smoothie recipe. I love green smoothies. I feel like they are a great way to get lots of vitamins in my day. I used to juice a lot (until my juicer broke) and I’ve debated whether or not I should go back to juicing, but I feel like smoothies are probably better for you because you get the WHOLE fruit & vegetable, not just the juice.

Anyway, this smoothie recipe is pretty simple. Start with about 2 cups of greens. I get a bag of mixed greens at the grocery store. You can just use spinach if you want. Add just a little bit of water and blend it up. It’s much easier to blend the spinach up before you add anything else.

Add some fresh fruit. For this particular recipe, I added an avocado and a mango.

Add some frozen fruit. I got a tropical blend of mangos, strawberries, and pineapples. I added about 2 cups.

trpicalcopy

That’s it! No dairy or sugar necessary. If it’s not sweet enough for you, add a banana. Sometimes green smoothies take a little getting used to, but once you do, you’ll love em’. Chances are your kids will love them to! (Sneaky way to get them to eat healthy foods!)

Horchata

I have a super secret recipe for ya’ll today. {Yes, I just moved to Texas, and have decided maybe I need to start putting this word in my vocabulary ;)

My husband served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mexico City, Mexico. He spent two years living in Mexico teaching others about Christ.

While he was there he ate some incredible food! He raves about it continually and I try my best to replicate what he talks about by piecing together different recipes. Horchata was something that I tried and tried and TRIED to make {I even used store bought mixes!} And we could never find something just right, so I finally asked a friend from highschool who was born in Mexico. She gave me the basic ingredients and I kind of had to figure it out from there. This recipe has been tried and tested and tweaked to perfection. I had the hardest time finding the perfect recipe, and my friends, here it is. Our family isn’t really into making drinks {we are a water and milk kind of family} But this drink, we take time to make and enjoy, because it is that good!

You start out by cooking brown rice and cinnamon sticks. Pretty simple right? You let that sit overnight and then,

IMG_3489Blend it all up and strain through cheese cloth, and then you add sweetened condensed milk, and more milk, sounding pretty amazing right? Okay, okay, here is the recipe…

Ingredients
  1. 1 Cup Uncooked Brown Rice
  2. 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  3. 7 Cups Water
  4. 6 Cups Milk
  5. 1 {14.5 oz} Can sweetened condensed milk
  6. ground cinnamon {for decoration and garnish!}
Instructions
  1. 1. Cook Brown Rice according to package directions with the two cinnamon sticks.
  2. 2. Pour the brown rice and cinnamon sticks in a large seal-able container, and add the 7 Cups Water.
  3. 3. Cover and place in the fridge overnight {or 6-8 Hours}
  4. 4. Remove cinnamon sticks and throw those away. Place the water and rice in the blender and just break up the rice. {You may have to do this a few times depending on how big your blender is :)
  5. 5. Strain the rice and water into a pitcher. Use a Cheese Cloth {or strainer, but the cheese cloth works SO much better, You can find it at any grocery store.}
  6. 6. After straining add the sweetened condensed milk and milk.
  7. 7. Mix well and serve chilled or with ice!
  8. 8. Garnish with ground cinnamon and Enjoy!!
Notes
  1. This recipe takes a bit of time, but is SO worth the effort! If you want to make this drink a little lighter, just use fat free sweetened condensed milk and skim milk. I have done it that way and it is still very rich and delicious!

I thought this shake would be a good one for this month, seeing how it’s March and St. Patrick’s Day is coming up. It was delicious and festive and fun. And yummy.

Here’s what you need:
ice cream
chocolate syrup
milk
Duncan Hines mint chocolate frosting creation

If you haven’t heard of these frosting creations before, you can find them in the baking isle, where the frosting is. They have a TON of different flavors. They are meant to just add to frosting to color and flavor them, but you can do a lot of different things with them. I used the strawberry cheesecake flavor when I made this fudge.

Here’s what you do:
Mix it all together :) I used an immersion blender (thanks mom!) and I used about 1/2 of the packet of the frosting creation for a 15 ounce shake. I didn’t use much chocolate syrup, just a little. And, it was super brown when I was done, so I mixed in some green food coloring, because who wants a brown milkshake?
