I am a time management fiend. I work hard to make sure I am spending my time in the best way possible. I have a lot of things I want to get done and it doesn’t seem like I have all that much time. I didn’t use to be that way though. I have learned a few things in the last few years of my life that really help me to be more efficient. Since the new year is coming up, full of new goals and plans, I thought I’d share a few tips and tricks that really help me make the best use of my time.
Make A To-Do List (daily)
This is first on the list because it’s important! A to do list helps you see exactly what you need to get done each day and gives you a way to see how much you have already done. Some does I feel like I work and work and get nothing done. Then I look at see all the things I’ve crossed off my list and feel much better about myself. Some days, I put things like “get dressed” and “eat breakfast” on my list just so I can feel productive 🙂
Make A Weekly Plan
It really helps me to plan out my whole week. Each Sunday, I write down the things I really need to get done that week. Then I spread it out over the week so each day I’m only working on one or two “important” things. Then I add other things to each day like “clean the kitchen” or “two loads of laundry.” If something doesn’t get done on Monday, it gets moved to Tuesday’s list. That way I have a basic list of what needs done each day before the day even starts.
Eat Your Frog
I heard a once that said something like “if the first thing you do each day is eat a live frog, the day can’t possibly get any worse.” While I, myself, am not a fan of eating live frogs, I do like what the quote is saying. If the first thing I do each day is that thing I’ve been dreading, the rest of my day goes much better. I am not thinking about the dreaded task I have to do all day. I just get it over with, first thing.
Schedule Time For Yourself
I always schedule in some down time for myself. It might be an hour while the kids are sleeping or sometimes I even wake up an hour before I know they will wake up so I can have some time to just be me. I might spend that time watching a show on Hulu or browsing Facebook. It’s important to have some time for yourself when you can just unwind and relax.
No, you probably aren’t going to get 50 things done today. Don’t write that many things on your list. Just write down what’s important and go from there. If you overwhelm yourself, you’ll feel like you failed when you really just set the bar too high. And no one wants to feel like a failure.
There you have it. I hope some of those tips & tricks help you out in some way! Be sure to check back next week to see my list of New Year’s Resolutions. Because if I tell them to you, I have to achieve them, right? What are you hoping to achieve in the next year?Share
